Municipality: La Maddalena Region: Sardegna

The museum, created to preserve the material collected by the Association Cesaraccio, was inaugurated and officially opened on 1st March 2002. The two big halls collect samples of rocks, minerals, fossils, beach sand, shells, marine flora and fauna, mainly coming from several Park localities; the most important samples include giant groups of smoked quartz crystals coming from the north-eastern section of Caprera Island, known with the name of Punta Crucitta.
The structure includes a small hall used for video-projections and didactics for schools, as well as a small workshop with microscopes and everything you need for the identification and preparation of the samples for the exhibit. A reconstruction of a section of granite quarry with working tools, tracks, truck, forge, photos, historical documents and objects recalls the life and habits of the stonecutters who used to work in Cala Francese.
Moreover, the museum includes several donations made by private citizens, who have contributed to enrich the available material. The material on display in the Museum can be consulted and carefully analyzed by researchers or simple citizens, by previously presenting a written request to the Park Authority, under the surveillance of the staff of the Association Giovanni Cesaraccio. In the territory of Arcipelago di La Maddalena National Park the free search and collection of minerals and rocks are forbidden. This activity is admitted, also for mere enthusiasts, only for scientific purposes and only with an authorization issued by the Park Authority.
