Tour with snowshoes in Valle di Cogne

  • Trail Conditions: On foot
  • Interest: Panorama, Hystory
  • Departure: Parcheggio di Valnontey (Cogne)
  • Arrival: Valmianaz (1,729m)
  • Duration: 1.30 h - 2 h
  • Length: 0.50 km

Despite Valnontey is one of the busiest areas of Valle di Cogne, it is enough to enter it leaving from the big car park of the country hamlet and follow the trail on the right slope to breathe the park wilderness: small woodlands and clearings alternate and give the opportunity to easily observe the wildlife. At the first bridge (Ponte della Leuttaz), it is advisable to move to the left slope and go ahead along the cross-country ski track, without stomping on it, until you reach Valmianaz. It will be rather easy to meet the fox (but it is strictly forbidden to feed it!) and various bird species, since this area houses three woodpecker species - the Great Spotted Woodpecker, the Green Woodpecker, and the Black Woodpecker - as well as the Eurasian Treecreeper, the Crested Tit, the Crossbill, and the Northern Goshawk. The possibility to meet male wild ibex is not so rare, especially in winter and spring, and while observing the sunny walls with a southern exposure, it might be possible to see the Golden Eagle and the Bearded Vulture.
It is recommended to carry out the return journey along the same trail of the outward journey.

Main features:
- the view of Gran Paradiso glaciers from Valnontey bridge
- the characteristic architecture of the villages of Valnontey and Vermianaz, David
- Praz Suppiaz wetland
- the organic farm "La Ferme du Paradis" in Valnontey (possibility to purchase milk and cheese)
