Cupone, near Cecita Lake in the town of Spezzano della Sila, has been named after its homonymous river. Its history is linked to the long territorial struggles between the State and private citizens, which solved only in May 1876. The significant pure larch formations characterized by monumental specimens alternate with pastures: the local resources have always been cautiously exploited since the first decades of the 20th century. Just a sawmill at the beginning, this center was subsequently completed with special equipment in order to produce colophony and oil of turpentine; it concluded its economic-production experience with carpentry activities, and it has finally become a center promoting environmental defense and conservation policies.
