The History of the Mountain Hut

Lagazuoi Mountain Hut, built in 1965 by the mountain tour guide Ugo Pompanin, is still managed by his family; the continuity in the management of the structure guarantees a high-quality accommodation service and a good knowledge of the places. From its terrace at 2,752m, Lagazuoi offers an enchanting 360-degree panorama over the Dolomites. For almost the whole year, the fine mountain cuisine and the comfortable rooms give the guests the opportunity to enjoy a pleasant night in the mountains, with breathtaking sunsets and dawns.

Natural Attractions

These mountains, unique in the world for their beauty and World Heritage Site, will give nature-lovers the opportunity to live exciting experiences. Near the mountain hut, during the blooming periods, it is possible to admire several varieties of mountain flowers, some of which are very rare. Marmots and chamois can be sighted at the border with Dolomiti di Ampezzo Nature Park and Fanes and Sennes Nature Park.

Tours

During the summer the mountain hut is both the departure point and destination of several tours; the lap of Alta Via no. 1 and no. 9 is near Tomaselli ferrata at Cima Fanis Sud, Degli alpini ferrata at Col dei Bos, and Lipella ferrata at Tofana di Rozes. Situated along World War I front, it offers the opportunity to visit Lagazuoi outdoor museum consisting of a series of trenches and galleries developing for kilometers in the rock and representing important historical moments of our mountains.

Winter

The mountain hut is accessible also in winter, and is always heated. It is served by a modern cable car leading in 3 minutes from Falzarego Pass to the summit. Leaving from the mountain hut with the skis, you can descend along the ski tracks of intermediate difficulty of Lagazuoi and Armentarola, among the most beautiful tracks of the Superski Dolomiti area. Moreover, you can visit the surroundings of Cortina d'Ampezzo and Val Badia.
