Five years of work and dozens of days spent in the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, to document the biodiversity and beauty of the oldest beech woods in Europe, recognized in 2017 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 130 unpublished and compelling images, which tell the life of the large trees and the inhabitants of the beech forests throughout the year, offering the reader for the first time the opportunity to "penetrate" into the 5 forests of the Park and discover real sanctuaries of nature wild.
Here still live bears, wolves, martens, wild cats, woodpeckers, goshawks, owls, salamanders and an incredible variety of other animal and plant species. For five years two naturalists, authors of the "Forestbeat" project, explored the beech woods with their cameras, documenting their complex ecology and extraordinary biodiversity. The book gives us back a world lost elsewhere: a real "heritage", whose immense value crosses national borders and deserves to be shared with the whole world.
The images are accompanied by the authors' texts and introductions by Hans D. Knapp, president of the European Beech Forest Network, Gianluca Piovesan, professor of the University of Tuscia and Antonio Carrara, president of the Park.
