Easter at the top! The crossing of Monte Mattone

Every year a different high altitude excursion to spend Easter in the wild mountains of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park.
This year we will reach the top of Monte Mattone (1900 meters above sea level) from the Godi valley, making the crossing up to Villetta Barrea.
Monte Mattone, the southern peak of the Godi Mountain, rises steeply above the town of Villetta Barrea. The slopes of the mountain are covered by a beautiful beech forest which, on the southern side, is replaced by the magnificent Zappini Pine Forest made up of Italian black pine, known as Villetta Barrea, relict and located only in some areas of the Abruzzo and Majella National Park. The presence of this evergreen conifer forest creates a beautiful contrast with the colors that the dominant beech forest takes on during the seasons, and the view of the valley below, with Lake Barrea and the peaks of Chiarano and the Montagne della Meta and of the framed Camosciara, is truly of exceptional and evocative beauty.
