Wolves and shepherds

A one-week trekking to closely look at the ancient link which connects Abruzzo shepherds and peoples with the wild nature of their territory, where large predators - Apennine wolf and Marsican brown bear - have always been at home.

From Saturday 29 July to Saturday 5 August 2017

Someone wrote that an environment capable of producing a wolf is a healthy, strong, perfect environment: such is Abruzzo-Lazio-Molise National Park with its wolves, as well as its bears, chamois, deers, golden eagles and roe-deers. A wonderful trekking, with light backpack, to re-discover the ancient "tratturelli" (countryside paths for the seasonal herd movements). Abruzzo local cooking. The itinerary includes the protected area's most scenic mountains, but also those clearings  (the so-called "stazzi") where wolves and shepherds have traditionally been meeting - and clashing. As a matter of fact, the history of the Park is a history of men and wolves, still living together in one of Italy's most beautiful areas.
