Cultural Itinerary of Castel di Ieri

Castel di Ieri: nature, art, traditions and local tastes

  • Trail Conditions: On foot
  • Interest: Religion, Hystory

Castel di Ieri is a lovely medieval hamlet at the foot of Mount Sirente, in the Conca Subequana. Here you can admire its most characteristic monuments: the 2nd-century BC Italic Temple, one of the best examples of Italic temple architecture found in Abruzzi so far for its state of preservation; the "Madonna di Pietrabona" hermitage, a semi-roofed complex immersed in a charming oak and hazelnut grove called the "Bosco Sacro", and the fortified hamlet dominated by a watchtower.

You can walk through the old streets of the hamlet, along its churches, the thirteenth-century tower, the ancient communal oven, and the customs and traditions of the past, concluding with a guided tasting of local products to discover the tastes of the past.
