Campo del Sole is an original museum consisting of 27 big statues and one central sculpture realized between 1985 and 1989 by famous contemporary italian and foreign artists.
The sculptures are made of a particular sandstone called "Pietra Serena", which is extracted from the local quarries, and are placed on an open space along the Trasimeno's lake shore.
The statues are put along a spiral reminding of the different symbols for the labyrinth and Campo del Sole, with a reference to Stonehenge, and they almost wrap up the central work which represents a solar disc.
The Museum, which can be reached through a series of triangle-shaped stones, can be visited on foot for free.
Its location was not chosen by chance, in these areas around Tuoro sul Trasimeno the famous "Battle of Trasimeno" took place in 217 BC, during which Hannibal defeated the Roman Army. It is a fascinating place where the great works intertwine with the landscape and with the lake's colors.
