Giving its favorable habitat conditions (vast and sometimes impenetrable forests, scarce human presence, and presence of grazing domestic cattle), Monti Simbruini Park has always been an area populated by the wolf.
Unfortunately, especially in the 1980s, the species suffered heavy poaching phenomena (12 specimens killed in the period 1979 - 1989).
In the latest years, both in the Park and in most of our Country, some conditions like the increase in natural preys (wild boar, deer, and also red deer) and the greater efficacy of the damage indemnity systems seem to have positively influenced the dynamics of the species.
